Literature Text

The sand between his fingers was surreal, it was cold, while the sun scorched his back. Koron pulled his fingers into a fist, and pushed his body off the soft, yellow powder. He was still weak and pins and needles waved over him, pushing himself slowly onto his side. He couldn't recognize where he was, all he knew was that there was sand everywhere, and beneath him past his feet as he looked down the was an ocean that seemed to glow, and shimmer, only one this was distinguishable and broke the horizon, a single lonely tree.

Koron had a similar feeling to just waking in the morning, he rolled back onto his chest and his hands sunk into the sand as he pushed himself up into a kneeling position, he brushed his hands over his face in a mused attempt to stretch the muscles, he dropped one hand, raising the other to shield his hazel eyes from the harsh light of the sun scorching his retina, the only thing he could see was still the single tree. Koron flicked his legs to stand, wriggling his toes, sinking into the cooling sand, his hand flicked the dark brown hair to fall over his forehead, sand falling to the ground.

After looking around some more Koron thought it best to search around for something else, “Best not to go into the desert, I think.” He started walking along the beach to find, something more than a tree, I took him only five minutes of well paced walking before the tree had disappeared over the horizon but the seemed to be another ahead of him, “This place can't be that small, besides, I was walking in a straight line” something drew his sight closer to the tree, there was some thing on it, Koron ran to the tree in some strange fear that it might be taken away if he doesn't get to it now.

His feet stopped in the sand and he looked around one more time. “How did I.. Where am I?” his feet seemed to lock themselves into place, Koron stared at them, trying to think of something, the last thing he could remember was, watching the news in his bed room as he always did before going to sleep, there was a report about a strange sea serpent that had supposedly been seen in the Atlantic ocean, it was sink ships, but the blurred footage looked like it was using it's whole body on the boats, like it was just trying to get out of the sea, Koron couldn't figure out how he know but he saw it in the beast's actions. People had started a hunt for it, to kill it just because of the fact that it was so rare, but the opposing party claimed everything from the fact that it was endangered to the “It's a legendary mythical beast.” Koron found it discussing that people would hunt something just because it was rare, even if it means driving it to extinction.”I wish I could do something to help that thing.” he repeated it over and over again in his mind, racking his brain to remember what happened next but it failed him.

Koron started walking again towards the tree, there was a sign on it, the text was engraved into the dark wood, and had been filled with sand, He sighed and leaned on the tree, it was almost killing him that he couldn't remember how he got here. Koron's hand touched the old wood on the tree as he started to brush away the sand. The footage on the TV suddenly became as clear as day, the “amateur footage” suddenly looked like something from the movies, as it got closer to the action, the reporters voice hissed into silence, he didn't notice until this moment, but the TV had gone, he was no longer in his room, he was floating in the air over the sea and a sinking fishing ship as a voice whispered in his ear, “You cannot stop this violence, but you can help.” he looked down over himself and his body emitted a blinding blue light, before he woke on the strange beach.

His hand snapped off the sign the jolt of motion shifted the dry, brittle sand causing it to fall softly into the mass below it, he saw the message on the sign, it was engraved in an old style of text. “you came here for your wish but you must surrender you old life and choose your new one.” Confusion swept Koron “My old life?” he couldn't see any way to go back, his old life seemed to already have gone before he got here, he was given a choice? Koron looked out to the see and back over to the desert, there was a line in the sand and the shimmering of the sea somehow told him that they were his new home, but he couldn't understand.

Koron kicked the sand from the beach over the line in the sand to the desert, but nothing seemed to happen, the sand sunk into the line relieving it again, he eventually decided that he should see what would happen if he crossed it. Koron slowly and carefully tapped the sand across the line but nothing seemed to happen, he looked back to the tree to see if it was possible to decode the sign some more, but it was gone, the water too, there was no evidence that anything had happened, the sand was still dry where the water had been, But he was given very little chance to question what was going on, even if he was only asking himself.

The sand cushioned him as Koron fell to the ground his head softly fell into the dunes, he could feel his body starting to move without his control, at first it felt like he was having a fit before he physically felt a hand, with fingers grab his wrists and ankles tightly though he couldn't see anything but warm flames burning away at his clothes., they began contorting his body to stand, Koron's limp head forced him to stare at the ground, he saw his arms at his sides, his wrists started to feel dry and began turning a pale green, his skin still continued to dry out and chapped, looking like scales, he could still feel his feet and ankles as the too dried out, becoming scales.

The hands that held him in position separated, moving up his legs slowly, wherever they toughed his body dried and changed, 'CRACK' Koron's shins were snapped, cleanly and precisely on both legs, they moved further down, he tried to scream at the sight but he couldn't feel the pain and something stopped him from making any noise and there seemed to be a slight feeling of pleasure, joy coming from the changed. The invisible hands moved over his feet and quickly elongated his lower shins and feet they pushed his five toes into three and pulling them out, and finishing them with fearsome talons pulled from his nails, the hands moved to the heals of his feet pulling a back toe from them before fading back to nothing. Koron felt the relief and even freedom as he changed more, he stopped resisting what was happening to him.

The feeling that restricted his legs faded into the air as Koron stopped fighting and the changes came quicker as the spirit hand could move quicker, one was placed of his chest, burning his shirt, as the two that held his wrists stretched his arms, making them more muscular and scaled with the same pale green they pushed his ring and index fingers together into one at the same time as they pushed his thumbs further to the bottom of the palm of his hand and finished them in the same way as as his feet. Koron's spine war cracked surprisingly forcing him onto all fours, sliding its way down his spine and pulling out a tail that was the length of his own 5”6' body, the scales spread from the spot on his chest and connected to those at his back, but these were different the scales on what was now Koton's underbelly were more of a beige colour and fused together to form plates that crossed his chest. Something grabbed the sides of his head without warning and pulled it out elongating his neck into another four feet of green scales that where darker than those on the rest of his body, Koron could feel his head pulling forward and sideways, flattening all at once hit tongue was pulled out of his mouth and forked at the tip, the new scenes filled him as it flicked the at air, tasting potential prey, his ears moved out into frills that twitched in the wind. His teeth sharpened and his canines pushed themselves out, and over hung his lower lip, Koron's head now resembled something like a snakes.

The final part came next and Koron could sense it though he would never have know what it could have been. Two hands grabbed the sides of his head and started pulling away from one another tearing his head and even his brain in half and continued all the way down his neck to the base of his neck, the feeling was, almost painful but more indescribable, the two head halves quickly regenerated the two brains though apart were still invisibly connected and acted as one, Quickly both heads were torn in half again and again until there were eight. Koron looked in marvel at his new body and home with the many heads, noticing mountains in the horizon. As he moved in the direction to find a cave to call home, he couldn't believe what had happened, distracted from the fact that he had more than doubled in size and had finally stopped growing, he was given the chance to become one of the legendary creatures he wished he could save, but his mind was cast over the fact that he would have to remain in hiding until he had found a way to help.
